Jackson Harpe was born and raised in Marietta, GA where he began playing the trumpet at age 11. He became fascinated with jazz in high school, and decided he wanted to pursue that in life. Upon completing his music degree at Kennesaw State University, he was accepted to the University of South Florida with a Jazz Studies assistant-ship.
About a year after completing his Master’s degree, he was hired as an WUSF All Night Jazz announcer, and continues working with the station in addition to playing gigs and working with high school band programs in the area.
Jackson says his favorite food is pizza.
“It’s my kryptonite.”
His favorite jazz song is Joe Zawinul’s Mercy, Mercy, Mercy, performed by Cannonball Adderley.
“Because of its simplicity and soulful feel. It works as both an instrumental and a vocal song. It also reminds me of my dad, as it is a favorite of his as well.”
